The Navien NPE-180A2 is a high-efficiency condensing tankless water heater designed for residential and light commercial use. With a capacity range of 10,000 to 150,000 BTU per hour and a Uniform Energy Factor of 0.95, it delivers powerful performance while minimizing energy waste. The unit provides a maximum flow rate of 8.4 GPM at a 1.7 °C temperature rise, making it suitable for multiple simultaneous hot water demands. Compact and wall-hung, it installs easily indoors or outdoors and supports field conversion between natural gas and propane.
Equipped with Navien’s dual stainless steel heat exchangers and a built-in recirculation pump, the NPE-180A2 offers exceptional durability and faster hot water delivery. It features the EZNav™ multi-line control panel with integrated HotButton™ for user-friendly control, and it supports cascading and common venting with up to 12 units. Approved for 5.1 cm or 7.6 cm venting materials, it supports long vent runs and uses a 1/5.1 cm gas line up to 731.5 cm. With ultra-low NOx emissions and multiple built-in features, the NPE-180A2 meets a wide range of installation needs with high efficiency and flexibility.

Built-in recirculation system
Navien’s patented ComfortFlow ® system is the first to include a buffer tank, recirculation pump and fine-tuned controls into a tankless water heater, resolving the cold-water sandwich effect* and issues of minimal flow rates commonly found in other tankless water heaters.
* The “cold-water sandwich effect” is the undesired introduction of cold water into the hot water supply line on occasions of frequent on/off operations. (Measure Guideline: Transitioning to a Tankless Water heater, DOE, Sept.2012).
The built-in recirculation pump allows the NPE-A2 to recirculate water either through an external recirc line or through existing supply lines while using NaviCirc®, without the need for external pumps or controls. Good enough for the price
A solid middle-of-the-road option if you're not looking for premium features. Assembly took longer than expected and a couple of parts felt slightly flimsy. Not perfect but reasonable for the price point.
Impressed with the quality
Ordered this as a gift and ended up wanting one for myself after seeing how well it performs. It looks great in our kitchen and several guests have asked where we got it. Already telling friends and family to consider this one. Customer support was slow to respond when we had a question about the warranty.
Exactly what we needed
Picked this up after comparing a few options and I'm glad I went with the Navien version. Performance-wise it handles everything we throw at it without breaking a sweat. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone on the fence.
Underwhelmed by this one
Disappointed with this purchase, expected more for the price. Delivery took much longer than promised and the packaging arrived a bit banged up. Would think twice before buying this again.
Very pleased overall
The build quality on this water heater feels sturdier than others I've owned in this price range. Compared to the previous model we owned, this one runs noticeably more efficiently. Customer support was slow to respond when we had a question about the warranty.
